Hatha yoga is a popular form of basic yoga (yoking mind, body, spirit). It is gentle in approach, yet it is highly effective as both exercise and stress management leading to a greater sense of physical well-being and deep peacefulness.
Although Hatha Yoga is ideal for beginning yoga students, students of all levels can benefit from the deliberate, sometimes slow-paced opportunity to breathe, stretch, relax into the moment and put the Facebook/Twitter pace on pause.
Students will learn both asanas (postures) and breathing techniques that provide a full-body workout. In class, students will be directed to move into various postures and to be calm, focused and aware of one’s body. Body awareness can give one the ability to notice stress, or small discomforts before they become “dis-ease.”
About Your Class
Each session begins with time to sit or lie quietly, breathe, observe, and then move into a variety of asanas that benefit one or more specific parts of the body. Students will learn and practice postures from either standing, sitting, or lying on the back or front of the body. Mountain Pose (Tadasana), for example, is the basic standing posture from which all the other standing postures such as Triangle, Tree, and Dancer evolve. You will learn to move your body in new ways.
Some sessions will be done with relaxing background music. Lightheartedness is encouraged. As a student’s endurance increases, he or she will hold postures longer (typically never more than a minute or two). This style of yoga is very effective in enhancing the health of the nervous system, and promoting over-all wellness from the internal organs outward. Each session ends with 5 to 10 minutes of guided meditation.
Ignite or rekindle your inner “fire” by joining us for yoga in this intimate setting where you can move into your true potential of joy and wholeness.
Namaste,
Dorlene
